He was down bad, crashing wherever he could and making whatever food he found last. Old pizza, crushed chips, reheated leftovers — if it was still edible, it was dinner.
The bus stop and whatever spot was warm enough became home for the night. He learned when stores closed and when the leftover food got tossed, hoping something decent was still there.
He kept the crew laughing through it, calling stale fries and day-old bread “five-star.” When food was short, everybody split whatever they could find and made it work.
